Women Empowered Market Celebrates Local & Global Women

February 1, 2022 – In celebration of International Women’s Month, the next Women Empowered Spring Market will be held on March 25 (5-8 p.m.) and 26 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) at the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County.

This combination of shopping and education will include local and global handmade goods, Direct/Fair Trade social enterprises, local women artists and makers, women-owned small businesses, and nonprofits with a focus on assisting women. Food trucks are also scheduled for each day.

In addition to providing a local market shopping experience, this event draws shoppers and vendors who are passionate about social causes and want to learn about making a difference globally and locally with their purchases.

The event was founded in March 2019 and is held several times per year. The Spring 2022 Market will be at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC), in partnership with the CAC and highlighting the good work it is doing in the community, at 1211 S. Emporia St. (Lincoln and Emporia).

The Women Empowered Market is a movement of mission-based small businesses, nonprofits and purposeful consumers who come together to shop, support and learn from each other.

Lead Organizer Katy Munden Penner says this event is about empowering humans everywhere. “We started with a number of good causes and found that we had women in common. When women are empowered and succeed, whole communities are lifted.”

Penner is the owner of Alegria Fair Trade, an event planner (Women Empowered Markets and BuyICT Challenges), and a digital marketing content strategist with Alegria Ventures LLC.
